10 Best Isometric RPGs of 2022

10 best isometric RPGs you can play in 2022.

Isometric role-playing games dominated the industry in the 1990s, and they remained extremely popular throughout the 2000s before gradually losing ground to first- and third-person RPGs. Isometric role-playing games (RPGs) aren’t as common as they once were, but that doesn’t mean they’re extinct. Quite the opposite.

Recently, there has been a small revival of isometric role-playing games. Thanks in large part to the joint efforts of independent developers working to advance the subgenre and major publishers bringing venerable franchises back to life through sequels and remakes.

Although the trend has changed as technology has advanced, isometric RPGs have made their mark on the gaming industry.

Heads up as we list down our 10 best isometric RPGs. Check Them Out and let us Know which one is your favorite.

Dragon Age: Origins

Although technically speaking Dragon Age: Origins is only an isometric RPG if the player so chooses, BioWare’s game performs best on PC with the camera pulled out as far as possible.

Assuming the role of a Grey Warden, players embark on an epic quest to repel the Blight, the forces of the Archdemon.

The world of Dragon Age: Origins, which is set on Thedas, is brimming with character and nuance, whether it’s due to the distinctive characteristics of the various races or the smaller, more intimate plotlines that are dotted all over the place.

Dragon Age: Origins is a fantastic entry-level isometric RPG with accessible but challenging combat, a strong story that ranks among BioWare’s best, and timeless characters.

Hades best isometric rpgs

Hades takes everything in the world of dungeon-crawler video games. A game where you slash your way out of the underworld while attacking the god of death… What more could one ask for?

Players take control of Zagreus, a man who is the son of Hades. All of his fellow Olympians want to assist him in running away to safety, so he needs to get to Olympus to be with them.

The layouts of the rooms in this game are predetermined, but the enemies are all generated randomly. Receive gifts from the Olympians who are supporting Zagreus and even control lightning by the powerful Zeus.

You return to your father’s presence after death in this game and must give up all of your gifts.
Its graphics are incredibly clear and crisp, and the color scheme is very reminiscent of Dead Cells, which is only a good thing. It’s one of the best Nintendo Switch games and a real challenge to master, so only experienced players should attempt it!

Divinity: Original Sin 2

The first word that comes to mind when I think of how to describe Divinity: Original Sin 2 is “incredible.”

The majority of other isometric RPGs from the last ten years are inferior to this game, a contemporary masterpiece. The game is also among the best co-op games ever created.

The fact that Divinity: Original Sin 2 was independently created by a studio that was still fairly small and was crowdfunded is what makes this game so remarkable.

It only serves to demonstrate that creating a great game doesn’t always require the support of major AAA publishers.

Diablo II: Lord of the destruction

In this ranking of the top isometric real-time strategy games, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction wins silver. It serves as an addition to Diablo II and takes place after Mephisto and Diablo have been vanquished.

We’re talking about more potent everything, which is an absolute guarantee that an expansion is worthwhile.

What then is new in this edition?

Players can choose from a female assassin and a druid to add some variety, and companions can level up alongside your chosen character.
Players can use a tonne of brand-new weapons and charms, and runes, in addition to the jewels you gather along the way, offer a tonne of bonuses.

Similar to the first Diablo game, defeating monsters gives players experience points. After purchasing skill points, there are numerous opportunities to upgrade your chosen character, raising your skill levels and enhancing magical abilities as you go.

As you explore towns and complete quests, combine items to create the ultimate fighter. Lord of Destruction has to be my favorite of the Diablo games, which are among the best isometric RPGs available.

Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows Of Amn

Baldurs Gate II
Baldurs Gate II

Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn is still dazzling twenty years later. A detailed world full of characters and tales to tell is presented in BioWare’s RPG, which is once again set in the Forgotten Realms of Dungeons & Dragons.

The main quest builds on its predecessor by telling a more intimate but still epic storyline. It should take around 75 hours to complete.

The side quests, however, might surpass the main narrative in quality. The gameplay is strategic and adaptable, enabling the use of various strategies in both combat and when attempting to complete quests.

An isometric role-playing game should be every bit as good as Baldur’s Gate II is.

Fallout 2

best isometric rpgs

Some of you might not be old enough to remember, but the Fallout series was once very different. The first two games in the main series were Wasteland-style isometric RPGs.

The same is true of the two spin-offs, though the creators did make an effort to incorporate different genres into those.

It always brings back a lot of happy memories to talk about the older Fallout games, especially the second installment. We do recognize (some of) Bethesda‘s efforts to continue the series, but the isometric perspective is still something we miss.

Let’s hope the business decides to bring it back at some point. Whenever they’re not working on a new iteration of Skyrim.

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium takes the bronze medal in our best Isometric RPGs of all time, giving players the chance to play as a detective searching through an entire city.

Play as a good guy or a crooked cop, taking bribes or playing by the rules as and when you please.

Seriously, the amount of choice in this game is wild. You can treat people how you like; maliciously, patiently, kind, diabolically.

You can even sing karaoke, which we all know is the devil’s work.

In this game, creating characters is also a cinch. You can have a lot of fun with 80 different items and skills to choose from, as well as some wild substances that mess with your mind, to aid you in your quest.

There is also plenty for you to get your teeth into, including the Detective’s Thought Cabinet, which has over 60 thoughts in it, along with some of the cleverest dialogue in a game since the release of Skyrim.

Baldur’s Gate III (isometric RPGs)

It’s time to return to the Dungeons and Dragons setting in order to combat evil and make use of the brain parasite’s magical abilities.

You could always succumb to the parasite and turn into the evilest person on earth.

Very strange and eerily reminiscent of Stranger Things…

All the races and classes in this game will feel very familiar to you if you’re used to playing D&D. The game’s thrills and spills are all present in B.G. III, which allows players to play either alone or with up to four other people.

This game appears incredibly new and fresh in comparison to Fallout 2. That’s largely due to the new Divinity 4.0 engine, which offers players a stunning world where freedom and exploration are commonplace.

The game feels a little bit different after each playthrough because the environment around you responds to your decisions and how you engage with it.

Path Of Exile (isometric RPGs)

best isometric rpgs

For quite some time, Path of Exile has been among the most played isometric role-playing games. The classic hack-and-slash gameplay is heavily borrowed from Diablo, but the game goes much further.

Particularly impressive and in-depth compared to pretty much anything else in the genre is the skill tree. At least until the release of Path of Exile 2 in 2019.

The game’s business model is another crucial element that made it a success. Path of Exile is a free-to-play game, and despite the abundance of in-game items you can purchase, you can easily play for hundreds or even thousands of hours without spending a dime. Providing grinding is acceptable.

Planescape: Torment (isometric RPGs)

best isometric rpgs

Planescape: Torment should be right up your alley if mysterious tattoos, tonnes of dead bodies, and zombie workers are your thing.

Your goal is to identify yourself and discover why you are unable to pass away peacefully. The player enters a world of hatred and misery in this rather gloomy and moody setting.

Perhaps not one to play when you’re a little down, then…
Along with leveling up through combat using the various RPG techniques, you can also improve your character’s non-violent stats like Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma.

And I suppose you’ll need all the charisma you can muster when dealing with floating skulls and people who run spiritual brothels.
